Borderline

Where: Alingsås Konsthall, Sweden
What: Objects, sound, light
When: 29 march - 3 may, 2008
Demo duration: 2 mins
Demo Subtitles: n/a

Collaboration with artist Bo Melin.

A fully automated club completely closed to the public. Every night at 9:00 pm the club starts sounding and flashing through the large panoramic windows of the exhibition space. Light effects and annoying techno music spreads over the city center of the small town. The club, Borderline, closes first at 7:00 am every morning. At daytime the museum is open as usual, but the club is closed. Visitors instead meet the skeleton of the interior of a club. The design is inspired by famous clubs in the world, all with one thing in common, that it's virtually impossible to get in. One of these clubs are The Baghdad Hunting Club, in Baghdad, Iraq. A place where one of Saddam's brothers held open a club, free from restrictions and rules, and in the middle of roaming war. This too, a club completely closed to most people.

During the exhibition period the museum was reported to the police several times, threatened with numerous lawsuits and constantly contacted by angry people complaining. After about three weeks and formal complaints from some important businesses in town the museum caved in and closed the exhibiton.

The sound level from the exhibition was at all times below what's stated as being acceptable by Swedish law.

Death Equalizer

Where: 3rd Tirana Biennal, Tirana, Albania,
FutureDesignDays, Stockholm, Sweden
What: Object
When: Tirana 2006, Stockholm 2005
Demo duration: 4:45 mins

DEATH EQUALIZER - consists of a fully functioning electric chair with electrodes (handles) in the armrests. The electrodes are fed with a lethal dose of alternating current (400V), via 20 seriesconnected time relays that switch on and off at carefully calculated intervals.

The handles of the electric chair become live only when all the 20 time relays are switched on at the same time, thereby closing the series-connected circuit. The chance of this happening is one in three and a half billion (1:3,500,000,000) per second.

Self-Induced Trauma #16

Where: Andrehn-Schiptjenko Gallery, Sweden
What: Video, object, photo
When: 2000
Demo duration: 14 mins
Demo Subtitles: english

An exhibition kept at a level of simple gender issues based on a traditional patriarcal upbringing and present culture, in an installation dressed in the shape of being a private matter. Would there be any sincerity and honesty to be found even within tiresome patriarcal justifications. The experiment was a success - the exhibition was by many regarded as being stuck at a neanderthal level of patriarchy. To me that meant that the inherited typically male language of communication still was stronger than any sincere intentions.

The title came from the fact that this was the sixteenth project in a row that would fuck me up in one way or another - or the representation of me.

Sauna Massage and Bed Warm-up

Where: Sthlm Smart Show, Helsinki-Stockholm
What: Performance
When: 1997
Demo duration: 2:30 mins
Demo subtitles: n/a

Sauna Massage and Bed Warm-up. A performance that took place at the luxorious ferryboat Silja Symphony at Stockholm Smart Show 1997. Throughout the boat monitors screened what was going on down in one of the saunas on the ferry. I gave full 90 minutes long body massages in exchange for their trust to me and my exposing their otherwise private situation. I also offered to warm up their beds for them in exchange for them trusting me with their keys.

Point of No Return

Where: Borås Konstmuseum, Sweden
What: Installations, objects, videos, photos
When: 1997
Demo duration: 10 mins
Demo subtitles: english

Given the unique opportunity - for an artist my age and status - to expand on an entire floor of Borås Konstmuseum, I put together an exhibition dealing with various aspects of a young personality struggling to grow up. Not nessecarily aiming at becoming responsible or even sane, just to transcend into someone being active rather than passive.

A demo of a performance/video installation by the same name, SOLD, that became something of a piece in itself since the documentation took place in such a weird place.
